GK2 Layout Planner

Graveyard Keeper 2 Factory Layout

On your first visit the factory planner opens on a Tier 1-2 layout with every extension spot filled. It runs on 3 carousels and uses 67 power.

The crate at (1, 1): Garden Storage and the Lifting Crane

Many players miss this. Build the Lifting Crane at the garden build desk. It goes up on a fixed spot and needs no zombie. Tick the crops you want on the crane, Flax for example, and it moves them from the garden chests straight into Garden Storage inside the Underground Factory.

On the planner, Garden Storage is the locked crate at (1, 1), the top-left corner. Only one guide gives that position, so treat it as likely rather than certain. Each blueprint here starts its supply bus from that crate. Garden Storage holds 20 slots, and Garden Storage II and III, built at the factory build desk, take it to 30 and 50.

This matters because every conveyor belt cell costs 1 Fabric on top of its Bronze Gear, and 16 Flax make 1 Fabric on the Spinning Wheel. A Flax garden feeding the crane is how most factories pay for their belts. See the farm and garden planner.

Power: belts cost it, carousels make it

Each zombie walking a Zombie Carousel gives 7 power, or 10 with the Belt Master talent, and a carousel takes up to 4 zombies. The factory has 2 broken carousels and 3 empty carousel spots, so you can run at most 5 carousels: 140 power, or 200 if every walker has Belt Master.

On the other side, every Conveyor Belt cell, Underground Conveyor cell, Conveyor Splitter and Supply Station costs 1 power. If you need more than you have, the whole factory stops: benches, the Bioreactor and the zombies. The power bar on the right shows what you use against what fully staffed carousels supply. Long belt runs are the usual cause of a shortage.

Extension spots: one small, one large

Every Assembly Bench, Smithy and Kitchen has exactly one small and one large extension spot, and each extension fits only one kind. In the planner, the small spot (S) is on the machine’s left and the large spot (L) on its right. When you pick an extension, the spots that fit it pulse. A belt or building on a spot blocks it and gets a red cross.

MachineSmall spotLarge spot
Assembly Bench I–IIIAuto-hammer or Spinning WheelDrill Press, Sewing Machine or Lathe
Smithy I–IIBellowsHammer, Press or Grindstone
Kitchen I–IIMillstone or Sealing MachineStove (not buildable)

A few traps: the Drill Press does nothing on Assembly Bench I, and the Press does nothing on Smithy I. The Grindstone is a Smithy extension, not an Assembly Bench one, and no recipe in the game files uses it yet.

Two-stage build and what it costs

Factory machines, conveyor chests and new carousels go down from the factory build desk as a site, and you finish them with the hammer at Building mastery 4. Repairing one of the broken carousels needs Building 5. Extensions and belts finish instantly. Demolishing factory buildings refunds 100% of their materials, so it costs nothing to try a layout in-game. The bill of materials on the right lists every raw material, the technologies to research and the mastery the hammer step needs.

Branch, filter and cross belt lines

Goods move one cell every 2 seconds, and each cell holds one item. With the Belt tool (B), drag to lay a line. Each tile points along your drag.

Recipes, tech costs, power, quality values and spot counts come from the graveyardkeeper2.io datamine (game build of September 2026), cross-checked against other guides where we could. The game doesn't publish building footprints or room sizes, so tile sizes and positions on the grid are a schematic. A patch can change any of this, so check the in-game build menu before you spend rare materials.

FAQ

How does Flax get into the factory without a zombie?

Build the Lifting Crane in the garden. It needs no zombie: tick Flax (or any crop) on it and it moves that crop from the garden chests into Garden Storage inside the Underground Factory.

How much power does a Zombie Carousel generate in Graveyard Keeper 2?

Each zombie on a carousel gives 7 power, or 10 with Belt Master, and a carousel holds up to 4 zombies: 28 power when full, 40 with Belt Master. The factory has room for at most 5 carousels, so the ceiling is 140 power, or 200 with Belt Master.

Why did my whole factory stop?

It probably ran out of power. Every belt cell, underground cell, splitter and supply station costs 1 power, and each zombie on a carousel gives 7. When demand is higher than supply, everything in the factory stops.

Why won’t my extension attach?

Each machine has one small and one large spot, and each extension fits only one of them: the Auto-hammer goes on the small spot of an Assembly Bench, the Drill Press on the large one, the Bellows only on a Smithy. A belt or building on the spot also blocks it.
