The church’s spots
Church furniture can only go on the church’s own spots. To start with there are 6 bench, 2 confession, 2 shrine, 4 candle and 4 incense spots, plus the choir gallery and the organ. Improve the Church II adds 2 candle spots, and Improve the Church III adds 2 more candles and 4 shrines, for 8 candles and 6 shrines in all. The starting blockages and 13 pots cost about −33. Once you clear them, the donation box gives +1.
On the planner, dimmer spots are the ones those improvements unlock. The planner is a schematic: the number of spots of each kind matches the game, but not their exact positions.

The Choir gives +1 empty and +36 with 5 Maestro zombies. The Organ gives +5, or +12 with a Maestro organist.
Where 237 comes from
Fill every spot at tier III after both improvements: 1 (donation box) + 42 (benches) + 40 (candelabras) + 36 (shrines) + 40 (incense) + 30 (confession booths) + 36 (choir) + 12 (organ) = 237. The game never shows that number as a maximum; it’s just what the datamined values add up to, and players report reaching around 200–211. Church quality caps how many parishioners you can have, at the lower of quality and happiness.
