Areas on plots, pieces on spots
You don’t place graves freely. You build an area, a module with fixed spots, on one of your building plots. The graveyard has a starting section, and Expand graveyard I, II and III each open another section of plots. Each of the 10 area types can be built at most twice, so a finished graveyard holds up to 20 areas.
Plot counts per section are community-reported, not confirmed: players describe 4 plots in the starting section, 4 from Expand graveyard I and 6 each from II and III, which matches the 20-area cap. The datamine only says each expansion opens more building ground. The planner uses 4 + 4 + 6 + 6; check your own build desk before you plan the last sections.
Only what stands inside an area counts towards graveyard quality, and trees, bushes, stones or stumps inside one count against it.
| Area | Spots |
|---|---|
| Grave I | 6 graves, 1 bench |
| Grave II | 6 graves, 1 monument |
| Grave III | 4 graves, 1 monument, 2 flower beds |
| Grave IV | 4 graves, 1 monument, 2 lanterns |
| Walkway I | 2 benches, 1 monument, 2 flower beds, 2 lanterns (max 38) |
| Columbarium I | 2 columbaria, 2 benches, 2 flower beds, 1 lantern (max 67) |
| Columbarium II | 2 columbaria, 2 monuments, 1 bench, 1 lantern (max 62) |
| Mixed I / II | 4 graves, 1 columbarium, 2 flower beds |
| Mixed III | 4 graves, 1 columbarium, 2 monuments |
How a grave scores
A grave scores headstone + fence − the body’s red skulls, capped at the body’s white skulls. An open pit or an unfilled grave counts −3. The planner scores each grave as headstone + fence, assuming the body has enough white skulls.
| Headstone | Fence | Grave |
|---|---|---|
| Wooden Sign 1 | none | 1 |
| Wooden Cross I 2 | Wooden Fence I 1 | 3 |
| Wooden Cross II 3 | Wooden Fence II 2 | 5 |
| Gravestone I 4 | Stone Fence I 3 | 7 |
| Gravestone II 5 | Stone Fence II 4 | 9 |
| Marble Cross I 6 | Marble Fence I 5 | 11 |
| Marble Cross II 7 | Marble Fence II 7 | 14 |
Three upgrades for the whole graveyard add more on top: Fence I (+10), Fence II (+20) and Road and Paths (+10). They aren’t on the grid.
Recipes, tech costs, power, quality values and spot counts come from the graveyardkeeper2.io datamine (game build of September 2026), cross-checked against other guides where we could. The game doesn't publish building footprints or room sizes, so tile sizes and positions on the grid are a schematic. A patch can change any of this, so check the in-game build menu before you spend rare materials.

FAQ
Why doesn’t my new grave raise graveyard quality?
Only things inside a grave area count. A grave also scores at most the body’s white skulls, and the body’s red skulls are taken off.
How many of each graveyard area can I build?
Two of each of the 10 area types, so up to 20 areas once the graveyard is fully expanded. How many plots each expansion opens is community-reported (4 + 4 + 6 + 6), not confirmed by the game files.
